Sun, June 21: Leiden

We are winding down our stay in Amsterdam.  Today we wanted to visit one more town.  We had originally thought of going to Rotterdam but after reading more about it, we decided to opt for the more picturesque town of Leiden, just a quick 30 minute train ride from Amsterdam.  We woke up very late (9:45am) since it was "Sleep late Sunday" and headed out.

Leiden was the perfect city for us today.  Even though most shops were closed, the town was a great low-key city with few crowds and a great atmosphere.  We just strolled through town and took in the canal views, had lunch, and went to the botanical gardens.  Josh is now very interested in growing some flowers in our backyard when we get home!   We had the requisite chocolate purchase (comparing cities and shops of course) which is waiting for us later tonight for dessert.  And we came back to Amsterdam and went to dinner at a highly rated casual Indian restaurant.  It was outstanding -- probably one of the best I've had outside of India.  We almost forgot to take a picture beforehand as you can tell below.  Enjoy the pics.  Tomorrow is out last day in Amsterdam/Europe.  We fly to Tanzania on Tuesday.  Tomorrow will be another low-key day.  Doing the laundry, going to a science center for Josh.. getting a jog in..
